The problem with Iowa is that they LOSE games that they shouldn’t be losing.
They actually had a really good season this year going 11-2 and beating hyped-up Georgia Tech team in their bowl game, but is sucks that Iowa ended their season on a skid.
They put up quite a show in overtime vs. the Buckeyes (yeah that’s a caption fail whoever put that) but weren’t able to muster the win, but a work earlier they lost to Northwestern, at home!!! Another thing they can’t really control is the fact that Ohio State AND Penn State are in the Big Ten as well.
So until Jim Tressel decides he doesn’t want Ohio State giving him oodles of money and JoPa keels over, Iowa is just going to be stuck known as the “third string” team.
However, they will most likely start in the Top 5 next year with most of their starters coming back, so if it’s any year to become another face of that conference, that will be the year.
Sorry, haha, went off on a tangent there, I’m a USC fan so I spent the majority of the second half of the season crying in the corner like a little girl. Now that Kiffen is at the helm, I’m really not excited at all for the upcoming season, haha.
You are an idiot. Iowa beat penn state the last two years in a row. They took ohio state to overtime, AT ohio, WITHOUT their starting QB or RB. Stop acting like you know anything about the big ten. All you did was prove the caption right.
The Northwestern game felt liek every other game, they were going to do it again, they had to. Northwestern did a good job letting Iowa beat themselves early and just kept them down. The OSU game would have been a win had the receivers brought their hands to the game…Vandenberg is a stud. Does anyone give Ferentz the respect he deserves though? He recruits well, here in the middle of nowhere and puts together decent teams. BTW, Kirk owns Joe Pa.
iowa lost to northwestern because stanzi was injured in the first quarter and they werent prepared to lose him. notice, their two losses were both when they were missing stanzi at the helm?

The real problem with Iowa is that they win games they should loose, if you look at how many of their games they had a fourth quarter defecit or needed a spectacular turn of events to win (Northern Iowa and Penn State come to mind).

I’m from Iowa, although I don’t generally follow sports of any kind at any level. Just though I should point out that the games mentioned that the Hawks lost probably had more to do with their starting quarterback being injured, forcing the team to rely on a freshman in that spot, if I recall correctly. And all things considered, they still played pretty well.
Vandenberg didn’t lose the game at OSU, he was the best player on the field for either offense.

In response to Mike’s comment on the fail on the Steelers–when Hayden Fry became coach at Iowa in the late 70’s the Pittsburgh Steelers sent him Terry Bradshaw’s jersey to use as a model–Hardly a fail.(Except for your comment–but you are probably too young to even realize that fact)–this coming from a life long Iowan and season ticket holder.

Good job Ron. Did you also watch the game? If so you would’ve seen an injury ridden hawkeye team beat the hell out of the buckeyes the whole game. Would’ve been a completely different story if Strauss wouldn’t have dropped two count em two touchdown passes. But even with those drops our second string FRESHMAN quarterback and our 3rd string FRESHMAN runningback took tOSU into overtime where Vandenburg finally made a freshman mistake and took a sack instead of getting rid of it putting Iowa out of field goal range. But I strongly believe if Stanzi wouldn’t have been injured in that Northwestern game, Iowa would’ve beaten NW and marched into the shoe and spanked Ohio State. Stanzi has been the backbone of this team and without him Iowa couldn’t fire on all cylinders. But we’ll see come next season when the buckeyes come to Kinnick. Prepare for a beat down.
Right. So injuries never happen to any other team at inopportune moments. Invalid argument is invalid. Instead of whining about injuries, be excited about your promising quarterback who’ll be losing to the Buckeyes (again) next year.
That said, I don’t see why people are hating on the Hawkeyes. They’re a legit team that’s returning a bunch of starters and will in all probability have a really good season.
Thanks, at elst one person can give credit where credit is due. Injuries happen, but it was pretty ridiculous how many key injuries were in that game. They didn’t lose the game because of injuries, they lost because they didn’t take advantage of the opportunities that the OSU defense gave them.
Ok Im a hawk fan whom live in Cr. I think that any of the major school should just be honnored that one of us got to even go to a bowl. SO we had a few skidds so do all the other school at some point in time or another. SO i dont understand why there are so many hateful comments on here. Who cares whos in the picture or what the caption said, to me its a picture of a defining moment in th University of Iowa history, the season as a whole i mean. SO please before you decide to open your mouth and say something incredibly stupid, stop and think for a moment. they earnd what theygot this season some games yeah i admitt they gave away but others they fought and they fought hard.
