Don’t know about the hole “sexier” thing, but Oregon WAS the fan favorite and therefore a victim of the “Bowl Curse”. (The Bowl Curse: Never be the Fan Favorite; be the Underdog)
His name is Puddles. By some accounts, he’s actually considered to be nothing more than Donald Duck with an Oregon uniform.

Oregon negotiated the rights to use Donald as their mascot – but ONLY for games played in Oregon, and items sold in Oregon. They got that permission from Walt, himself.
Technically, unless given special permission from Disney (which they might have gotten for the Rose Bowl – isn’t it usually broadcast by Disney-owned ABC?), the mascot isn’t Donald, outside the state (in other words, you can buy Oregon’s Donald merchandise on campus, but not through internet or mail sales).
Not sure at a glance if that’s the Donald suit, or the away-game replacement.
Of course, they didn’t *need* to get permission to have a mascot called ‘Donald’ since names cannot be copyrighted, and I suspect that the likeness is not close enough to the original to warrant breach of trademark, but better safe than sorry. Especially when you consider that the guys who usually win in IP cases are the guys with the most money, regardless of who is in the right.
