I don’t see whats wrong with someone liking a sport that most people don’t. Not all NASCAR fans are Rednecks, and half the people out there that make fun of everyone that likes NASCAR being a hillbilly by using spelling errors, they might want to actually check to see if they’re spelling the name of the sport right. Once you sit down and watch it, it’s actually pretty interesting.
Not as interesting as Formula 1. Not by a country mile.
Well, I’ll give you that F1 has right turns more than 2 races a year, but NASCAR has more passes for places per race than F1 does in an entire season.
If you want to combine the best features of both, I think you’d get something like Aussie V8 Supercars.

I respect racing as a sport because there is a science and strategy behind it, but it is still boring as hell. And live in Indy a while before you start saying that all NASCAR fans aren’t rednecks. Obviously not ALL are, but the percent that aren’t is so small that it’s moot to even count. When race season heats up, I want to move out. They ALL look like this picture. I can promise you that.
I was born and raised in California, have never so much as been in the south, and I LOVE NASCAR.
I can respect the fact that you don’t like the sport, but do us all a favor and check your ignorance at the door.

I have watched NASCAR, and I have watched Formula 1, and come to think of it, I have watched a number of sports. But I don’t get why there are fans who are so silly! Football fans with weird face and body paint, half naked in the cold, and soccer fans — Don’t get me started! When you look at the audience at sporting events from the before the 60’s there wasn’t all this “strangeness”. Maybe it would curb poor behavior by fans (and athletes) if people were just a tad more formal in manner and dress.
But it just wouldn’t be as fun. Its hilarious watching people who are drunk (hopefully) act like morons for all to see.
He’s only kept off the streets on the weekends. The rest of the week he’s in his monster Chevy 4×4 highballing down the main drag hanging out the window with his Natty Light and tryin’ to be DaleJunior.
Actually, he is probably an accountant or an engineer. I speak from experience. Some the most conservative, staid individuals at work get crazy at recreational events.
He just graduated from high school with me in 2007. He is going nowhere. Very obnoxious guy that didn’t do much in school. I promise you.

This is sad because this is one of my ex-boyfriends… you know when you’re 15 and you go out for a couple weeks or something? He is EXTREMELY obnoxious. And my family took him to one of these nascar races… and it didn’t last too long after… seeing as I would prefer to sleep then watch cars racing around.

Hey NASCAR is easy to poke fun at..its a easy target for humor. I really dont think anyone really thinks all of the sterotypes are true with the fans (yes there are some) but we make fun of the characture of the fan…that is what makes it funny, its like me being Amish. I know there are a lot of jokes about me, but its just the streotype.

When I was a kid all the Amish kids next door came over to my house to watch Bugs Bunny. This was before computers and Nintendo or they would have borrowed that too.

Does it help any if we explain that NASCAR used to be called “Strictly Stock”, and that the “Stock Car” bit meant “unmodified” back in the 1960s when the acronym was created?
If yo’ve seen “Cars” (the Pixar film), the “Doc Hudson”/”Hudson Hornet” character in his race colours was a typical 1950s Sticktly Stock race (based on a Hudson Hornet car) and the “The King” character was based on “Richard ‘The King’” Petty’s” 1970/71 seasons Plymouth Superbird, from when you could go into a showroom Monday and buy a nearly race-ready version of the car you saw win the race yesterday.
The “Darryl Cartrip” character was based on Darryl Waltrip’s 1982 car, and “Lightning McQueen” on a car from about 2002.
Listen…You see people like this at ANY sporting event…it is called “being drunk”…or maybe even just having a good time….not ONLY nascar fans can act this way!!!!

I hate the discrimination against us “hillbillies” So, I have lived in Appalachia all my life. Yes, I love Nascar. But I am not a dumb idiot. I kept a 4.0 in College when only 16. Try that, you city folk that can’t connect with the real world, the trees, nature and other people except through computers.

ya no i love in the heart of irl and nhra indianapolis. the self proclaimed home of racing but my dream is to be in mooresville nc bfc nascar is the most exciting sport on earth. u dont see nething like nascar in other sports excitment wise. ya a long touchdown to win the super bowl or last second 3 pt shoot to win the nba finals or a grandslam in game 7 of the world seris those are exciting but u only see tht once in a blue moon where as u can see last lap passes to win the daytona 500 every year and hell racing wise drag racing is munipulated by the owners like john force and dario clinched the irl title b4 it was even close to bn over and f1 blows i went to the daytona 500 the indy 500 the us grand prix and us nationals in 2006 and by far the daytona 500 killed the rest so tht should say sumthin for the other sport if theyd step their overall event up maybe they could be on nascars level but until then theyre second rate
